Overview

This book is intended to be a lucid and concise introduction to the study of literary forms. The study of ‘form’ involves such considerations as the genres and sub-genres to which a work belongs, the literary devices like metaphors, symbols, similes and so on used in the work, and broadly speaking, the style of the work. While some modern approaches have privileged content over form and have chosen to focus on the politics of the work, many scholars maintain that the study of form is as integral to literary studies as that of the content. This introductory volume strikes an ideal balance between clarity and depth and will be of use and interest to all students of literature.
